NITZAVIM-VAYELECH "Standing and Going"

This week’s Torah portion is Nitzavim–Vayelech (נִצָּבִים–וַיֵּלֶךְ), meaning “Standing” and “And He Went.”

Today our readings come at one of the most significant transitions in the entire Torah.

Moses is approaching the end of his life. The second generation of Israel is now standing on the threshold of the Promised Land, ready to walk in.

The greatest challenge Israel will face will not simply be entering the land. It will be remaining faithful to God once they are there.

Israel is about to move from wandering to possessing, from wilderness to inheritance, from looking forward to the promise to actually living in it.

Our readings Deuteronomy 30–31 today brings together several major themes:

🔥 Circumcision of the heart.

🔥 Choosing life.

🔥 Loving and obeying God.

🔥 Israel’s future rebellion and restoration.

🔥 And the hope of redemption.

And this is where these readings become deeply relevant to us today.

Today’s Torah portion focuses on what happens when God brings His people to a place of transition.

What do we do when one season ends and another begins? What do we do when God gives us the very thing we prayed for?

Will we remember Him in the blessing as faithfully as we sought Him in the wilderness?

In our readings from Isaiah 61–63 today, we will be pointed toward the Messiah who comes to proclaim good news, liberty, redemption, and restoration.

And in our B’rit Hadashah, new covenant readings from John 12, we will see how Yeshua declares that His hour has come for to be glorified, referring to His crucifixion, resurrection and ascension.

Today, as we walk through our readings, we want everyone to see that these passages are not disconnected readings placed beside one another.

They are threads woven into the same story, the story of God’s covenant faithfulness and His plan to bring His people from where they are standing into the fullness of His redemption.
