PINCHAS (פִּינְחָס) Phinehas— Covenant Faithfulness: A Holy God Raising a Holy People.

This week's Torah portion is called Pinchas (פִּינְחָס), named after Phinehas, the grandson of Aaron, whose passion for the Lord’s holiness, ended the righteous judgment, in the form of a plague which had broken out among Israel because of their willful rebellion against the Lord (Numbers 25:10–13).

At first glance a few of today’s readings may seem unrelated. We’ll read about a census, inheritance laws, sacrifices, vows, the calling of Jeremiah, and then in the Gospels, Yeshua healing on Shabbat (Sabbath).

But together today’s readings show us how the Lord is preparing a covenant people to inherit His promises, serve Him faithfully, and proclaim His Word to every generation.

Throughout these readings we see the Lord raising up faithful leaders, preserving His covenant, establishing worship, and calling His people to holiness with hearts fully devoted to Him.

Today we’ll be reading from Numbers 25, Numbers 26:1-4, 51-56, 63-65. Numbers 27 Numbers 30, Jeremiah 1, and Luke 13:1-17 to see how all our readings today reveal to us one unified story of redemption, through Yeshua, the Messiah of Israel and the nations.
